- User-centred content and editorial development
The brief
People seeking public information want to know what applies to them, what they need and what happens next. Policy organised around internal systems and responsibilities does not always answer those questions. The task was to make digital guidance easier to use without losing important conditions.
What I wrote and edited
Working through a professional-services consultancy, I developed user-centred digital information from specialist policy material. The work brought together plain language, content structure and stakeholder input.
- Find the reader’s task. Structured guidance around what people need to understand or do.
- Clarify the sequence. Brought key requirements, relevant conditions and next steps into a useful order.
- Explain specialist language. Made terminology understandable without changing the underlying meaning.
- Preserve policy precision. Kept qualifications and distinctions visible, with subject-matter input where the interpretation matters.
The editorial decisions
A qualification hidden far from the main explanation can be missed. Too much background can delay the answer. I considered both the wording and its position, making requirements and next steps easier to find while preserving distinctions that needed policy input.
